WHEE! WHEE! WHEE! NOT REALLY...

Although the banner headline, "Philippine Population Growth down to 1.94%" was a good enough reason for me to pick up the Philippine Daily Inquirer once again, the elation didn't last very long. The sobering reality is that those useless twits in Congress and Senate haven't come around to passing House Bill 3773 yet. And until then, lower middle class Philippine women must remain at the mercy of Philippine Catholic Church when it comes to being educated about family planning. Sigh. Time to put the cork back on the champagne and keep passing out those Trust Condoms and Birth Control Pills once again.

Sidebar: If you are looking for work in the Family Planning industry. DKT Philippines is looking for help. Click here for more info. It's work. And a good cause at the same time.

Thank you www.disciplestoday.com for the photo. But I wouldn't raise the victory sign yet, kids. There is still a long way to go.

Hi Carlos, I have a query that has nothing to do with your post... What was Alfred Eiffel's role in the construction of San Sebastian Church? (Eiffel as in the Eiffel Tower) I haven't found any sources, just heard rumors.

What I know/heard is that Gustav Eiffel and the architect of the San Sebastian Church both just used the same steel fabrication company from Belgium (Societe Anonime des Enterprises de Travaux Publiques) to make their works. Either that or Gustav used to work for that same company. But that's it. Gustav did not design the San Sebastian, it was Genaro Palacios y Guerra, a Filipino Spaniard.

the leaders of all the religions in the philippines who choose to meddle with policy-making should be executed as soon as possible. Who gave them the monopoly on righteousness and reason? For good measure, I move that all christians be lynched - worldwide if possible.

When will the government pass a bill that will require all future parents to pass an exam and get a license for raising children ? Why do we need a license to operate a car, a business, a gun, etc. However to bring a human being into the world, it is a free for all ? This has to end, the fagets in the Vatican have to stop brainwashing innocent people just so that they can get richer by producing more slaves...heaven and hell is only in the mind !

look at those cute kids smiling. the problem is economic not population growth. the new economies today are all about numbers. the best population control plan is a booming gdp. look at singapore and spain.

Annie. Sigh. So true. Education and Employment are the best birth control methods.

But when it comes to numbers, I would have to disagree partly. Yes, there is nothing wrong with a large population. But it is the SPEED AT WHICH IT GROWS which is the problem here in the Philippines. The population is growing at a FASTER SPEED than the economy. The two are DIRECTLY tied and to think otherwise is ridiculous Opus Dei economic hoo hah.

I'm not for DECREASING the population, I am for letting it grow at a MANAGEABLE pace.

It's especially tricky as well when the ever increasing numbers are the ones who are NOT educated productive citizens BUT POOR IGNORANT FOLKS who are given no choice but to be a burden on society.

That is the problem here.

Cute? They are street kids. Their plight is never cute. And all their mother had to do was get a simple ligation or their papa use a condom. And just for that one decision, these kids are born to parents who cannot take care of them (and have NO DESIRE to take care of them) and they now have to live on the street.

Sigh. Not cute at all, and no amount of "Hail Marys" and "Our Fathers" will make it otherwise.

hey lateralus, i agree with you. In the Philippines one of the biggest obstacles to progress and prosperity is the Catholic Church. The day we are free from its Dark Ages influence is the day this country starts getting somewhere.
