Those ANAKPAWIS asshats are SO annoying. I had a classmate like that in college. I nearly kicked his cowardly ass in college. Insecure cretin. He LIED about me to my professor, telling him I didn't want to take the re-scheduled final exams (in our last semester in our graduating year- o di ba?) because I preferred daw to rehearse for my major role in the University's upcoming play.
Now this asshat had had it coming for the last two years after turning communist. Before that, nobody even realized he was our blockmate for two years. He was that pathetic. He would ask ridiculous questions from the professors to make pasikat in the worst way, and not be interested in the answer, just looking at other people in the class to see if they are looking at him.
It seemed to him that I had epitomized the "capitalist, elitist and moneyed upper-middle class". And he chose to mess with me especially because I spoke and wrote in English very well, was a major member in the University's exclusive Dramatic Guild and was very active in extra-curricular activities.
In the end, hanggang salita lang siya. When I was about to pummel his arse, he hid behind the girls and it took all the guys in the class and some of the girls and the Dean to stop me from doing so. All he had was a shield of girls and a black Panda ballpoint pen he was threatening to stab me with.
NOTE: I finished AB Political Science. So he felt I didn't belong there because I was an elitist capitalist daw and not a socialist/communist like he was.

I just read your post and remembered one of my run-ins with this sort of person.
Many many moons ago, when I was orking in the school paper, we had our "resident communist" who would churn out kilometric, almost unreadable jargon- and slogan-filled tracts that we would print out of the sincere belief that the paper had to be open to all
opinions, even those most of the editors found totally unpalatable.
I remember once trying to explain to the fellow that if he really wanted to change minds and opinions, he had to change his approach, his language, simply because no one — except yours truly who had to proofread his work — would go beyond the first couple of lines.
He — a fellow student in this "elitist" university — looked at me as if I was the lowest of the low, an insect, for daring to suggest that the glorious slogans be removed or adjusted so that the school's students — the school's "masa" since any predominant
population in a place is its "masa" — understand what he was trying to say.
I always figured that that was the true elitist attitude.
One should adjust to the place and people that one is in in order to make yourself understood. This includes blogs. The Anak Pawis person made the same mistake my college communist did — she did not adjust her message to fit your blog and insisted on barreling on with the slogans. A skilled and sincere communicator would have figured out a way of insinuating his or her anti-GMA
message into your blog by — at the very least — From what I can tell,the simple fact that we speak in English makes us elitist in their eyes — sort of like the simple fact that a person wore glasses during the Pol Pot regime in Cambodia was enough to brand
that person an intellectual who had to die.

but it is the philippine political/economic elites who have (mis)managed the country since independence. and what have they done with their power? i mean, just look at the state the country is in, with its great (& unjust) disparities of wealth (which is what makes communist ideology so appealing to many filipinos who simply have no means to survive & meaningfully participate in the current social configuration of the RP - in which political/economic power is controlled by such a small group of elites & largely exercised for their benefit).
i'm not sympathetic to the communists. however, let's not forget which social class has actually been running the country for decades (and doing very poorly at it, if the state of the country is any indication of the quality of its leaders) (although the state of these politicians' bank accounts somehow maintains a constant profit).

I agree with JD and House of Love. Communists and leftists are hardly relevant in the Philippines. Those who are in power and who cause many of our problems include the government, the military, and several large corporations. That's why we hardly have enough money for public services, can hardly trust the police or soldiers (many of whom are poorly equipped or paid), and are charged very high rates for food, electricity, fuel, medicine, and telecomm services in the Philippines.
being a UP grad myself i saw first hand the lies that this so-called activists spread to naive students the "oppression" of our govt... crispy pata is no match to them to raise my BP... do you know where i frequently see teddy casiño who is one of their ringleaders? at the makati sports club teaching his son swimming after he became a party-list congressman.. major HYPOCRITE...
I agree with most but not all of what you are saying...
But it's just sad that you people praise Palparan for all his (even purported) human violations. This is democracy, and activism comes with the territory. How you guys can say such things is beyond me, even with the news of grieving parents looking for the desaparecido...
The state of our country and the ineffectiveness of post-1986 people power revolution has left as all jaded. But we should not step on those who still have the urge to fight for all our rights. Let's not overgeneralize...
