OMG.

Ms. Alyssa Alano, the dear lady who brought us the classic Youtube clip, "Keys Me" now brings you more precious moments in Philippine English with her appearance on "Kayang Kaya Mo" (You Can Do It!), the Philippine version of "The 20,000 dollar Pyramid". Be warned, for those of you NOT into really low Filipino humor, I suggest you close this window now.

But if you want more... Click here.

Yikes that was painful to watch. At least she seems like she can laugh at herself. But Joey looked like he's absolutely ready to flip out. =)

is this for real? i thought she's another filipino comedian satirizing the pinoy promdi speak. i don't know who this gal is but from the posts i'm beginning to think she really speaks like that and is blissfully unaware that people are making fun of her?! but if that cheering audience is authentic, why is this gal famous?

"he English stinks big time". Love that.

And um. Anonymous, wake up to what?

I don't think our English is crude. I think it's charming in it's own little way. People should be given the right to speak whatever language they want. Even if badly.

When Americans speak bad Tagalog, I think it's cute. I don't think it's insulting. At least they are trying to learn a language different from their own and trying to open up a world that was not accessible to them before. The same goes for Pinoys who try to speak and understand English.

More power to them.

That girl is smarter than half the anonymous posts here.

Obviously she knows her English grammar and diction are bad. It's what made her famous and she's capitalizing on it.

Happy to see Alyssa Alano take things in stride with good humor (she's also milking the internet publicity/infamy...).

Is English her first language? Not likely. And so what? Carlos has got it right. It seems that he is just pointing out (also in good humor) the type of English that one might hear in the Phils. I don't think that there is anything wrong with that. But please understand that there are many Filipinos who are quite self-conscious about their English when dealing with native English-speakers -- sometimes even to the point of embarrassment or reticence.

P.S. I must say that it is sad that Alyssa's Australian dad decided to abandon her family. I suppose that she did not even have the opportunity to learn English from him...

poster robby villabona "obviously" does not know half the anonymous posters here (and may or may not personally know this gal alyssa alano), therefore his declaratory comparative measure of "smarts" is without credence. after all, intelligence is measured neither by fame nor wealth an individual may possess. perhaps he meant to speak of her comparatively to himself?

true that it is flattering to hear non-filipinos speaking or at least trying to communicate with us in polite tagalog. they give us a small measure of honor and respect with such courtesy. i seriously doubt though, that we would feel flattered if we witnessed an anglo comedian giving a terrible non-comedic performance in very bad tagalog at a north american or european venue to a mostly if not all, non-tagalog speaking white audience. of course, in alyssa's or other filipinos' case, we may understand it to be "self-mockery" but the anglo comedian we would perceive his/her performance to be bigoted and we would feel insulted. it's like the don imus brouhaha - it's okay for black rappers to call black women "nappy headed hoes" but a white guy says it and swoosh ... off with his head!

hmmm ... alyssa alano <> alissa milano? at least try for some originality.

Oh, goodness! I can't decide whether this is hilarious, irritation, charming or embarrasing! IT IS entertaining, that's for sure.

With such a bunch of dumbos, no wonder the Philippines is now lagging behind its very own Southeast Asian neighbors (Malaysia, Singapore) when it comes to English proficiency. Some find it hilarious, but seriously, it's very alarming. What happened to the claims of POEA officials that OFWs are in such high demand because of their knowledge with the English language? Is that just for kicks?

Anonymous,

Ooooo... I touched a nerve there. "Declaratory comparative measure of 'smarts'."? You must be a lawyer.

My posting was only meant for people with a sense of humor.

Affiant further sayeth naught.
