CARLOS RECOMMENDS!

Philippines Free Press Magazine just had a new makeover and it looks promising. My friend Erwin Romulo is the new editor, my neighbor Juan Caguicla shot the cover, and another friend, Tad Ermitano, wrote the article on the American elections inside. And their new issue is timely. Right now, I myself am trying to figure out who to back for 2010. Noli de Castro?  Dick Gordon? or Bayani Fernando?  I know I'm not too impressed with Mar Roxas or Chiz Escudero as of now. And Manny Villar or Jojo Binay?  Please. I'd rather stab myself with an icepick.

Mar Roxas - too establishment. papayamanin lang ang pamilya.

Binay - given his track record in Makati, might do another Gloria (read: overstay)

Bayani - so crazy it might just work.

Noli - see above.

Yeah. Sidney. No more Gloria. Not again. But I'm willing to wait for 2010. I just really wanna decide upon who next though...

Grrr.. I'm racking my head. Can't make my mind up yet.

Anyone want to run down their own plusses and minuses of these candidates for a clueless Pinay-Kana abroad?

I really would like to know. I care very much what happens in the next election.

If you really care Christina, I suggest you apply for dual citizenship. I can see you drifting towards Federalism?

Yeah. Dual citizenship is allowed in the Philippines already. You could vote then, Christina.

And own land! Whee.

I myself can see myself drifting towards federalism too..

hey carlos!

thanks to your post, i stayed up til 3am wading through the
massive archives of the Philippines Free Press
website (yes, it's on wordpress ",)

amazing writing from kerima polotan, nick joaquin, nap rama,
both teodoro locsins. wow.

but after reading reams and reams
about Quezon, Magsaysay, Aquino,
Marcos, et al.,

i looked again at the current issue and yup, it was still
Noli de Castro on the cover.

in a nutshell, emphasis on NUT,
the quality of politicians we have at present compared to the intellectual giant of the past.

chiz already has a moist eye
turned towards the presidency
in 2016,

as everyone's assuming he has
a lock on the VP nom in 2010.

but this surge for Ate Vi
probably is making sen. escudero
weep copious tears...

While Obama started his campaign 2 years before the actual elections, I have yet to see anyone who is really viable for the post.

What I'm scared of as much more years of Gloria is the return of Erap. He threatens to run in 2010 if all the opposition senators and LGU heads still wouldn't choose who among themselves will be their party's sole ticket

I already am a dual citizen and can vote. I always have been, but I never knew that until last year.

I take voting very seriously and want to be well-educated about who I'm voting for before casting a ballot. I want to be responsible about it.

I am afraid though I am currently completely uninformed about who the potential candidates are and what they have going for them/going against them.

Anyone want to give me a run down, from your own opinion, of who you want to become President and who you don't and why?

Reacting to Spanx, your opinion is driven by pure nostalgia. The quality of our past politicians are no different from those we have now.

For every Magsaysay we've elected, we've also elected a Garcia and a Quirino. And remember it was a former Senate President from the 1940s, Jose Avelino, who was quoted as saying, "What are we in power for?"

I'm for Bayani Fernando for what he has done to MM or Noli de Castro for patiently waiting for his turn.
