BRUSSELS SPOUTS...

BELGIUM ROCKS...
A couple of weeks ago after Pope Ratzinger made his irresponsible and delusional remarks in Africa, I told the pope to "F*** himself" on my facebook status bar. And although I may have recieved a few irate messages from conservative readers, I'm glad now to see that I'm not alone in this matter. Just this morning, the artist in residence at The Living Room told me that theĀ Belgian Parliament lodged a diplomatic protest against the Pope's remarks. Good for them! That man in the funny suit must be reminded that the world is not going to allow him to twist scientific data to promote myopic Catholic dogma. Really, why is the heirarchy so adamant against keeping up with the times? This backlash against the pope is absolute proof that the Catholic Church has got to start being relevant to today's issues lest they lose their following and become this weird cult that will only flourish among the ignorant and the insane. Naturally, the Vatican is not too pleased with Belgium.

I am not a fan of the current pope either. We'll have to wait until he goes to heaven for us to see any real change in Catholic church policy. Hope we can select a better pope then.

On a related note, my pet peeve has been how little representation the Philippines has in the papal election process. Imagine we only have three cardinals despite having 80 million faithful!!! This is just plain unjust and so neocolonial. Yet, our lawmakers still feel a need to kowtow to the dictats of the Vatican.

why would one WANT Philippine representation in the papal election process??? Bad as they are, It's better to have popes coming from pragmatic countries. At least Angela Merkel and Germany have the balls to tell the pope to STFU as they have done recently.

if those monkeys at CBCP were to be elected, we would all be doomed. imagine for example a world where Cardinal Sin was pope!!! Ewww!

The birth rate in Belgium is declining at an alarming rate.

I hope you shared with Angelo Vermeulen some tips on how we can increase our (Belgian) rate of reproduction!

I think Angelo would be knowlegable in that department already. And if not, it would be best for him to figure that out on his own.

Nash. Ditto...

Wow!
This proves that religion has yet to accept the science behind the beginning, end, and in-betweens of life.

The pope's comment makes him another spokesperson for Thabo Mbeki's team - Team Denial & Ignorance about AIDS.

Great post!
AIDS has been sidelined for the past few years and it has been catching up with its new victims.

It has been that way since the very beginning.

As a Catholic, I will tell you change up they're may take much slower. Even if His Holiness would push for becoming more relevant, the old farts in the curia won't.

It's a bad case of group think.

Many key players up there are cardinals who were born before VII and they won't let more liberal leaders from places where the "Church is Young" like Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa and India

i have nothing but contempt for this pope and i'm catholic. i just cannot put up with his brand of conservatism and after much discernment i have joined an episcopalian (anglican) church in my brooklyn neighborhood. it's a waspy bunch but it's something i can live with rather than acknowledge the pope's omniscience during sunday mass. the episcopalians are very catholic and traditional in their rites such as marian worship, use of candles and incense and whatnot, which made it possible for me to make the switch, but are known to support progressive causes. thank god for the episcopalians...
