It was quite surprising to hear staunch GMA hater Manuel Buencamino try to convince his "daughter" to vote for Gilbert Teodoro in this article. Being pro Gibo myself, I thought it was nice for him to try and explain to his daughter that there is more behind the man than what is expected. Unfortunately, his brilliant daughter seems to be smarter than him (or so he portrayed), so perhaps we need a mother's point of view to iron things out here with such a cynical daughter. I (Manuel Buencamino) tried to sell Gilbert Teodoro to my daughter.
“I am impressed by Gibo Teodoro’s quick and decisive reaction to the Maguindanao massacre. He displayed courageous leadership,” I said.
“Why, what did he do?”
“Plenty. He visited Vice Mayor Ismael Mangudadatu right after the massacre, went with him when he filed his certificate of candidacy for governor, and appointed him new provincial chairman of Lakas-Kampi after the Ampatuans were expelled.”
“You’re impressed that a presidential candidate took sides in a power struggle between warlords?”
OH, BUT WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE DONE HIJA? I KNOW YOU ARE SCHOOLED. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW SINCE YOU HAVE SUCH EXTENSIVE KNOWLEDGE ON AN ISSUE THAT HAS BEEN KEPT DORMANT FOR DECADES IN THE RP.

TEODORO IS FAMILIAR WITH THE ISSUE, HE TRIED TO MEDIATE BETWEEN THE TWO FAMILIES BEFORE THE MASSACRE HAPPENED. HIJA, IT'S NOT AS SIMPLE AS YOU THINK. IT REALLY... REALLY... IS NOT. AND I REALLY DON'T SEE HOW CALLING FOR JUSTICE WOULD BE EFFECTIVE EXCEPT FOR WELL, CALLING FOR JUSTICE. ACTIONS ARE BETTER THAN WORDS NO? LOOK AT THE BIGGER PICTURE.

“He expelled the Ampatuans but kept Gloria Arroyo, her children and in-laws as party members of good standing along with other well-known crooks, warlords and human-rights violators. They are not included in the cleansing process, why?” she asked.
AH. SO GLORIA ALSO MASSACRED 56 PEOPLE? IS THE CRIME DIRECTLY RELATED TO HER NOW, HIJA? TRUE. SHE DID KEEP THEM IN POWER. BUT THEIR CODDLING CAN BE TRACED ALL THE WAY BACK TO CORY, NO? “And who’s going to be left in the coalition if he does that?” She laughed.
“Ramos said Gibo’s decision to expel the Ampatuans ‘seemed like withdrawal of support’ for Gloria,” I said.
“Gibo, the man who said, ‘For me now to say I will turn my back and bite the person who gave me a break will be the height of ingratitude,’ has gone rogue? C’mon….”
GRATITUDE IS A BETTER VALUE IN MY EYES, THAN BEING BALIMBING, HIJA. AND MANY MANY PEOPLE HAVE SERVED WELL UNDER QUESTIONABLE CIRCUMSTANCES. LIKE HOW NINOY'S DAD WAS VICE PRESIDENT UNDER THE JAPANESE. AND ONCE GLORIA STEPS DOWN, YOU THINK SHE WILL GET THE NUMBERS IN HER PARTY TO MAKE HER PRIME MINISTER, ESPECIALLY SINCE A LOT OF LAKAS FOLK HAVE GRAVITATED TOWARDS OTHER PARTIES. SHE IS TOXIC EVEN WITHIN HER OWN PARTY. A LOT OF THE PEOPLE WHO SUPPORTED GLORIA HAVE NOW FLED TO OTHER PARTIES TOO, WHAT DOES THAT SAY ABOUT THEM AND THE PARTY THAT ACCEPTED THEM? HMM? HIJA?

I know what you mean mommy about the judicial system - thats why nga the Gloria made sure puro appointees nya lahat yan e! Pero that point aside Mommy, di ba yang mga executive pardon ek ek na yan di ba hawak ng executive yan as the name implies. Like for sherrrr first order of the day ni Gibo yan once Gloria finds herself or her family or cronies in a pinch.

Wow Carlos, you're so desperate. Even more, you're so delusional.
I have a story of my own to tell. Once there was a man that toured people across old Manila. I admired this man because I thought he was a man on a mission. I thought he was a man of character. I was wrong. What I thought was a decent man had the gall to sully the good name of Cory Aquino--the Philippines’ icon of democracy, by linking this paragon of a woman to the creation of the monster Ampatuan. Such preposterous lies are not used by the decent to further their own advocacies. Or could it be just a lack of research, in which case he has no business being in his line of work? (Fr. Eliseo Mercado, a known peace advocate had already dispelled this malicious twisting of facts when he said that Cory Aquino removed Andal Ampatuan Sr., a Marcos appointee, and replaced him with Datu Bodhi Ampatuan, a non-political member of the Ampatuan clan.)
What he sees in Gibo Teodoro, I cannot fathom. Certainly I understand how some young people are easily bowled over by the presidential manner, the silver tongue, the body language and eye contact etc. But the tour guide... I thought that being a student of history himself, would have had more discernment. And this is very recent history too. Not about the Japs or the Americans, but about a Dept. of National Defense chief who was ineffectual during Ondoy and ineffectual in stemming the flow of arms to Maguindanao warlords, making his actions in Maguindanao after the massacre nothing but empty posturing.
The man that I admired hailed the DND chief's sense of gratitude and his conviction that he must not bite the hand that fed him. Pagtanaw ng utang na loob... certainly a Filipino trait to be cherished, but where does this loyalty to Gloria end? And where does loyalty to the people he promises to serve begin?
This man who has allowed himself to become a megaphone for lies and venom is a big disappointment. He spins tales and takes a lot of artistic licence on truth. He is at best a very imaginative and flamboyant storyteller. But sadly, nothing more.

I hate her interference with the RH Bill and National Artist's awards. But I do credit her for her economic policies that allow the Philippines to still function despite the political noise and for the new train.
I don't like her for specific things and I also like her for specific things.

Way to many to mention.
I support Charter Change, LGBT rights, HIV/AIDS prevention, the promotion of secularism in Philippine society, etc.
I support The RH bill because it will give the most vulnerable sectors of RP the right to plan their own family and give access to the technology to do it. Right now, rich people can buy contraceptives freely. That is just completely unfair. Rich people can plan their family but the govt condemns the poor not to simply because the Church says so. It's really an offensive situation.

I happened to catch one of those presidential debates on ANC, the one held in UST. I must say I admire Gibo for answering the GMA-loyalty question head-on. He said, among other things (it was a very eloquent, articulate, and concise answer-under 2 mins!) that once you're president, "gawin mo na ang dapat gawin kasi presidente ka na e." (or something to that effect). It was said simply but I realized it's true--why would you be bullied by anyone if you're already the one running the show?
this maybe a very convincing post but i implore everyone to watch as many of these debates with an OPEN mind. LISTEN. while you're at it, take time to wikipedia the candidates and READ. give star-gazing at political ads a rest. too much TV can be bad.
