I don't usually give trade secrets away. But I'm in a good mood today, so I think I'll share this pearl of information with all of you mortals out there. Tucked away on Pablo Ocampo Sr. Ave. (also known as Vito Cruz Extension) is the best Filipiniana bookstore in the Megalopolis. From photo albums of Old Manila and Corregidor, to biographies of historical icons like Imelda Marcos and Jose Rizal, to children's books, postcards, cookbooks, and limited edition publications, The Filipino Bookstore is definitely the place to go for all publications Filipino. And the best part of it all is that they are ALWAYS ON SALE! Either that, or it's so cheap that it feels like it is. I once found a rare monograph, THE ART AND ARCHITECTURE OF LEANDRO V. LOCSIN for only Php3000.00. Insane. This is where I go for my Christmas shopping or for giveaways for my tours. Don't tell anyone.

That last sentence was a good one...hehe.
And their guys are polite too. I asked for directions how to get there, since other The Filipino Bookstores have closed down not to mention the Bookmark in Crispa too.
Sigh, I wish their kind would increase.
I lived on this street and did not even bother to visit this place...
gems of manila :)
They used to have branches in Glorietta and Shangri-la Plaza. Now gone. Why can't we foster this kind of cultural literacy instead of the movies that don't foster anything beyond t&a?
What's wrong with t&a? That genre has its place (and uses). Bookmark has the 7-volume facsimile edition of La Solidaridad (facing pages in English and Spanish), at a marked-down price of, I think P7,000 (down from more than P12,000)
See? I'm telling you. That place is a bargain. But let's not let them know that.
Thanks for the tip. I used to go to Bookmark Glorietta and then one sad day it was gone... :-(
they always join the bookfair. kaso sad to say this year, their booth was cut into half!
I used to go to the Filipino Bookstore in Glorietta all the time and actually its where I bought many of my gifts for my family and friends and built up my own collection as well. I always took out-of-town guests there! Great space!
I'm glad they still have a branch open!
Hi! Got here from Sidney's blog.
I used to buy Filipiniana books at Bookmark (Shangri-La EDSA Mall and Alabang Town Center). But I never knew about this one on Vito Cruz (I used to study at DLSU). What I know is F. Sionil Jose's little bookstore along UN Ave. (?). Thanks for sharing the your secret with us.
Yeah. La Solidaridad Bookstore. Yes. I love that bookstore too.
Sad. All Bookmarks and Filipino Bookstores are gone. Even the one on Escolta (the original) is closed. This is the warehouse of Bookmark. The "store" is just a small room at the entrance.
I guess that's why it's so cheap here. They dont have to pay rent a mall.
Used to frequent Bookmark in Glorietta when I used to work in Makati and even when I moved offices to Roxas Blvd. I especially loved their booth at the Annual Bookfair at Megamall. Now that I live abroad, I've always tried to figure out where their remaining stores are. Will definitely pay a visit the next time I'm in manila.
