SURREAL IN THE CITY...
SMELLS LIKE PHILIPPINE SPIRITSo odd. Just last week, there were these posters that were plastered all over the lamp posts of Roxas Boulevard and they were the most semiotically discombobulating things I have seen in a very long while. Done in an elongated tri-colore design, the words - from top to bottom - read as follows:

Now, so confusing was the arrangement of ideas and images on this poster that my train of thought immediately afterwards was as follows: "Why is Kim Atienza on that poster?", "What does he want us to smell?" "Does he want us to smell like him?", "Does he want us to smell his friends?", "Does he want us to smell him like a friend?", "Why are the colors Italian?", "Is Kim Italian?", "Is it because Nancy Castiglione is Italian?", "I am so confused.."
And I guess Kim got confused too. Because only three days after the photo above was taken..
His image was immediately slashed off. Hmmm. I wonder what's the story behind this? Weird. Weird. Weird. But if you think that is weird - this is even weirder (see photo below). According to a billboard festooned above the Magallanes overpass in Makati, apparently Kris Aquino wants us to smell like her too. What an ultimately frightening situation. What on god's earth would you attract? Apparently only yuletide chihuahuas and other small dogs who can travel in cars. Because I had the privilege of smelling it last week while I was at the mall. Kris Aquino smells like a stale gingerbread cookie found underneath a car seat. Simply gross.

oh, that smell! no wonder james yap looked so sullen in that billboard. ha!
as for poor little kimmy atienza. apparently dad's popularity doesnt rub off on him. seems like son-in-law miles roces could do more with the ball than our local steve irwin. if only the animals in manila zoo could vote....

My friend and I passed by that Friends-sponsored concert last Friday evening. Invasion of the jologs talaga. But I also couldn't help thinking: not bad naman yung event, and Baywalk in general. People were having fun, economic value was being generated, and there was a lot of human activity.
Cool. I'm glad to hear that. I was only a couple doors down. They even ended it earlier than I thought. Traffic was insane though.
I was just wondering why Kim's face was on the poster. I'm sure he was too.
:) I think there is or was another one on the corner of Quirino and San Andres near Taft. I say I think because I only saw it a couple of times as I was driving by and could not completely read it. Honestly, I thought it was an ad for a new gay bar called 'friends.' I didn't realize that was kim atienza... I thought the man was supposed to be some kind of ambiguous, somewhat handsome, studious, but fun fellow. Like I said I was driving by...
BTW-Are the rumors true-now that Kim Atienza has moved out of his apartment on del Pilar left turns are no longer allowed on to Mabini from Quirino? What a pain in the ass...

Actually I just took a left turn yesterday from Quirino onto Mabini. Did I just do something illegal?

Yes the rumour is true. No left turns allowed from quirino to mabini these days. as for the 'stale gingerbread cookie smell', ewww. i didn't think i could be any more put off on kris aquino than i already was, carlos, but you've managed to do it. Now i'm really nauseous.
ive seen those strange posters. initially thought them to be Italliani's reopening in malate, but upon closer perusal and finding kims moue on it, i wondered if there was a eurotrash quasi masculine night at the Baywalk.
memories of kim are fuzzy and liquor based. i do recall seeing him dash hurriedly out of a Blue cafe toilet...followed by a ________.

i believe that kim atienza is being positioned to take over the city hall of manila in next year's elections... a friend of ours is in fact running against him :)
since kris aquino bashing always ALWAYS gives me the happy....my all time favorite billboard of hers was the "wet look" one - her 1st bench billboard - with her in a bikini, or tankini or whatever with this "seductive" / trying hard - sexy / come hither - look....UGH! it was soooo sad. instead of looking sexy and seductive, she looked like she was smelling something BAD....everytime i passed by the billboard, i had 2 thoughts -
1) i imagine her asking herself during the shoot while trying to emote to the camera - "who made basag the bote ng patis??" - hence her pangit / mabaho smell look....
and thought #2) oh god - kris aquino.....why are you up there?? your general annoying-ness magnified to mumu billboard- higante size is really tempting me to floor the gas pedal and make my car FLY THROUGH your scary face!! of course it would mean i will plunge to my death at the magallanes interchange but hey...
