ROLLING WITH THE HOMIES...

ROLL WITH ME AND LET'S HELP THE DOT...

In line with the new twitter trending topic #HelpDOT, I'm organizing a little bike ride for the #HelpDOT volunteers around downtown Manila this weekend. Starting at the Manila Film Center, we'll roll all around Malate, Ermita, Intramuros, and Binondo and back again. I want to outline a potential bike/pedestrian tourism corridor between these areas. I would love to see a clean, green, and beautified beltway that links the CCP complex all the way to Chinatown. It would be very beneficial to tourists if we can find a way to link together all our historical spots through proper landscaping, public art, pedestrian paths and bike lanes.

So come with me and let's check it out and brainstorm. It's going to be a great way to re-orient ourselves with Manila's historical spots and maybe have a light snack along the way.

AND DON'T FORGET TO WEAR A HELMET!

Meeting date: September 5, 2010
Meeting time: 6:00am
Meeting place: Manila Film Center

Please text 9209092021 to register for the Sunday morning bike ride. Just send a text with your name.

Route:
Start at Manila Film Center 6:00am
CCP Complex
Roxas Boulevard
Intramuros
Escolta
Plaza Lawton
Luneta Monument
Back to Film Center

great idea! too bad i don't have a bike. but i have ideas biking round in my mind..how about creating a map afterwards indicating possible improvements? so it will translate to a project that can be costed and funded. then show it to mayor so it can be his showcase project. or, maybe the DOT can sponsor a design competition for the bikeways/pedestrian ways.

Great idea; count me in. Im an avid folding biker and I can even help in the mapping as I am an avid user of Wikimapia.

Kindly check out how some Filipino Wikimapians have tagged some places in Intramuros: http://wikimapia.org/#lat=14.5923778&lon=120.9736615&z=18&l=0&m=b

I'll text you soon to register.

Thanks

We might have a bike you can rent out from us! You can see some of our bikes over at our shop in the Collective(Malugay St. Makati), or here: www.facebook.com/hocusmanila or newoldbikes.multiply.com If you're coming from Makati, we know a nice bike route to Manila!

i wonder if Senator Pia Cayetano and Commissioner Gregorio Larrazabal would be interested to join, since both of whom are avid bikers?

From what I've read here Carlos , maybe you should hold off on looking for government support for the moment . Identify the pertinent historical sites , route(s) etc . Form a focus group of interested parties along the route and in the areas identified . Basically set it all up at a private citizens/interested businesses level . then take it to the government . Tourism ministers come and go and can't always be relied upon . Darn I wish I could come along lol . A fantastic initiative Carlos , keep up the good work .

i think this is an amazing initiative and cynicism about DOT support is probably the last thing we need right now. can't wait to join this sunday, just hope the weather cooperates!

on a much brighter and semi-schizophrenic note,

http://www.accuweather.com/en-us/ph/metropolitan-manila/manila/quick-look.aspx

predicts a storm-free sunday!

WHILE

http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/forecast/1523

says otherwise. let's hope BBC just got it's weather forecast from pagasa.
