OH WOW..

Oh really? No kidding.
Apparently, I attended Imelda Marcos' 80th birthday party. I didn't get to dress up, stuff myself on prawns, and dance till four am, but it seems that I was there - larger than life. And thank you to a dear friend for emailing me proof.
So judging from the photo above, does this mean that "The Barefoot Beauty", Imee's "pambatok" documentary against Ramona Diaz is done? I know I allowed footage of myself to be filmed by it's director, Mark Meilly so I'm inferring that the project is finally complete. I can't wait to see it.
And does this also mean MIRM likes my "Living La Vida Imelda" tour? The footage was obviously used. Or does this mean she hated it? Because it's no secret that I wasn't invited to the party. Either way, it doesn't matter a smidge to me.
All that matters is that you guys attend the next Imelda tour on July 18, 2009 at 2:30PM and learn a little bit more about the Philippines in the 1970s. Tour starts at the Little Theater Lobby of the Cultural Center of the Philippines. Click on the tour description and schedule links on the sidebar for details.

LOOKY! LOOKY! LOOKY!
THE BATTLE OF THE BRUJAS (tm)...This is really old, but nevertheless, it's still good.
Now what would happen if we pit Imelda Marcos and Leona Helmsley against one another over a pair of shoes?
Log onto the defunct grudgematch.com and check out what ensues. And even though it was all written in the late 1980's, (the Marcos funeral, Mike Tyson, and Liz Taylor perfume references being a dead giveaway), the humor still has legs today. The word Filipino is also spelled in many interesting ways throughpout. So brush the dust off this site and prepare to waste at least ten minutes of your day.
My bets were on Leona. Sorry, Madame.

And guess whooooooo's baaaack? It's a bird. It's a plane. It's a pig in the sky. It's Malu Fernandez. Ever unremorseful with no hint of her past troubles, check out her latest entries on how to relieve yourself from the heartbreak of gluttony and hangovers in last Monday's Manila Standard.
Wala lang. Frankly, I don't care. But I just like to stir sh**.
Everyone. Read her article here:

OH...MY...GOODNESS...
Wow. So apparently this is what her high hairedness is giving away as a parting gift when you leave her presence nowadays. Thank you so much to Anne-Marie, Annick, Geert, and Jeff from Brussels for this precious bouquet of painted olive shell "roses" and capiz "leaves" glued atop a glass jar full of sand and clams crowned with a huge mother of pearl disc that has the image of our former first lady set in between the words, "Love and Best Wishes Imelda". It was given to them by the great shoed one herself after she interviewed "Madame" for a Belgian documentary being done on the world's most popular first ladies. Naturally, they didn't want to ruin this amazing historical artifact by stuffing it into the aeroplanes baggae hold. So instead, it was given to me for safekeeping in Manila when they left the country. I proudly display it now on the toilet watertank in the bathroom of The Living Room. It's gorgeous... Just... Just gorgeous...Friday, March 09, 2007
HERE SHE GOES AGAIN...
Really, who the hell does this woman's PR? I would hire him/her in a flash. After features on CNN and in Vanity Fair and New York Magazine, here goes her High Hairedness in W Magazine this time. I actually had a quick meeting with Marshall Heyman, the writer of the article over drinks the Peninsula poolside when he came to town. And judging from our conversation, I was in fear that his article would make a mockery of the country and our choice of leaders in the same way that many other journalists have when writing about Imelda and her position in Philippine history. I was pleasantly surprised to find it to be rather balanced. Most of the crazy stuff written was not from his pen but from her own mouth. I'm also amazed how nice the article is about her when she really drove his patience and nerves to breaking point. Not to mention that he was also being very diplomatic about her collection of jewelry. Read the article on style.com here and to come to my Imelda Tour of the CCP Complex here. And thank you Kiko for the great review!

MELDY MOVIES...

IMELDA AND MAO DOWN UNDER AND BIG IN JAPAN...Oh wow. It's the anniversary of the EDSA revolution, that week twenty one years ago when we sent Ferdie and Meldy packing for that fateful trip to Hawaii. And as a way to commemorate this occasion, I would like to post these fabulous youtube videos of Imelda's official visits to Red China, to Australia, and to Japan where she accepted the Kajima Award for Peace. I viewed these videos with a mix of kitschy glee and sadness. It seemed like the Philippines was a country poised for stardom back then, a nation that rose out of the ashes of World War II to become an international force to reckon with. Unfortunately, things didn't work out as well as we had hoped. And furthermore, we invested way too much into this lady. And since we allowed her and her butterfly sleeves to define our identity on the world stage, now that she has become a parody - in a weird way, so have we.
I wonder if we'll ever allow anybody/any icon to ever represent/define ourselves once again?
Watch the China trip here, the Australia trip here, and the Japan trip here. Thanks to Ria T. Trillo for sending the posts to me and thank you to irm888 for posting the videos on the web to begin with.

IMELDA'S OTHER GEORGIE...
It's been a busy busy year for Madame High Hair no doubt. Ever determined to stay in the spotlight, she launched a jewelry line, she threatened to run for mayor, she threatened to let her grandson run for mayor, and was featured in both New York Magazine and CNN. But the real proof that Imelda is back on the radar again is her latest interview with the ruthlessly shameless George Wayne of Vanity Fair. Log on here to read about her musings on perceptions of wealth, the truth about those bulletproof bras, and her grandson, Bench underwear model, Borgy. In comparison to other interviews that George has done, he was being downright effusive with the Great Shoed One. I just like the fact that the terno she is wearing in the illustration, is the same one she is wearing in the post I made when I met her.
